First-Ever Naming Ceremony at a Cruise Line Private Island for MSC Cruises

A luxury cruise line is hosting the first-ever naming ceremony for a private island that will be operated by MSC Cruises. The process of gifting an exclusive place on earth to someone has never been more personal and unique than this, thanks to blockchain technology.

MSC’s newest ship is in Ocean Cay Marine Reserve for her naming ceremony, with Hollywood royalty Sophia Loren on board. Sophia Loren is the Godmother of an MSC cruise ship for the 16th time.

At the same time, the voyage marks the official opening of the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. MSC Cruises is celebrating its newest Seaside EVO ship with environmental enhancements and a private island that contains a coral laboratory and coral nursery zones, despite the fact that the island has been open for some time.

The MSC Divina is MSC Cruises’ newest and most innovative ship.

MSC Seashore is more than simply the next Seaside-class ship; she’s a 65 percent renovated and redeveloped version of her older sister ships, with additional public spaces, more guest bedrooms, greater outdoor space, and a much larger length. Despite the fact that the ship was supposed to commence operations from Miami earlier this year, she spent the summer in the Mediterranean.

MSC Seashore sailed from Miami, Florida, on November 17 with a small number of invited passengers. The ship’s permanent homeport is Miami, from whence she travels to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Sophia Loren fulfills her duty as godmother to an MSC cruise ship for the 16th time today, in front of travel advisers and journalists from across the globe, as well as other significant VIPs and stakeholders.

Onboard the ship and on the island, where MSC Seashore will spend the night, there will be celebrations. Following the baptism, a gala dinner will be held, with live music supplied by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and three-time Grammy Award winner Nile Rodgers and his band Chic.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve has officially opened.

The naming ceremony today also acts as the official opening of the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. Although the island reopened in December 2019, it was forced to shut once the epidemic struck.

A ground-breaking ceremony for the MSC Foundation’s Marine Conservation Center, which includes a laboratory and coral nursery sites in an endeavor to rehabilitate coral reefs in the Bahamas, is part of the inauguration.

“Today is a tremendously important day for us,” MSC Cruises U.S.A. President Rubén Rodrguez said. MSC Seashore is another example of us delivering our most cutting-edge ships to the United States. It’s particularly significant because we’re calling her after Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, our stunning private island dedicated to the restoration of marine resources and continuous protection of marine life.”

Ocean Cay was clearly not the tropical island paradise it is now when MSC took over. For a long period, the land was used as a sand mining operation. The restoration effort was undertaken by MSC in order to return the environment to its previous splendour.

Following the name ceremony and groundbreaking at Ocean Cay, MSC Seashore will return to Miami on November 20 to embark on her first Caribbean cruise, calling at Cozumel, Falmouth, Jamaica, and MSC Ocean Cay, Bahamas, before returning to Miami.

Guests may extend their trip by adding two days at Ocean Cay, a stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and a final stop in Nassau, Bahamas to their package.

With Ocean Cay officially open for business, all MSC ships traveling from Miami and Port Canaveral will stop at least once every trip, typically until late at night or even overnight, providing passengers have plenty of time to see everything the island has to offer.
