There’s a lot going on in the cruise business right now, as companies adjust their procedures and make plans for the months ahead. We’ve got your cruise news update for you so you don’t miss anything from the previous week.
Breaking Cruise News
There’s a lot going on this week, with updates from several of the main cruise companies, as well as Carnival’s epic 14-day trip to Canada and Greenland. All of that will be discussed, as well as Norwegian Cruise Line’s forthcoming new ship, more cancellations in Australia, Royal Caribbean’s delayed relaunch, an Alaska senator fighting to preserve cruises, and, of course, an update on the Carnival Radiance makeover.
Greenland Voyage by Carnival Cruise Line is now available.
On Wednesday, Carnival Cruise Company Ambassador John Heald teased it, but on Thursday, the cruise line announced a one-time 14-day trip including stops in Canada and Greenland. The Carnival Legend will be the fortunate ship to be able to provide the spectacular trip from Baltimore, Maryland. There is, however, only one opportunity to go on this trip!
The Spirit-class ship will set sail from Baltimore on a 14-day journey on September 2, 2023. Before landing to Nanortalik in Greenland on September 8, the ship will cruise for five days in a row. On the following day, the Carnival Legend will dock at (K)Qaqortoq, also in Greenland. Both of the country’s phone numbers are on the southern coast.

On September 11, 2023, the cruise ship will spend another full day at sea before landing at St. Anthony, Newfoundland. A call will be made the next day at Corner Brook, also in Newfoundland. The last port of call will be Sydney, Nova Scotia, on September 13th. The Carnival Legend will arrive in Baltimore on September 16, 2023, after the last two sea days.
The trip is part of Carnival Journeys, which are unique sailings that the cruise company offers. Guests will get the opportunity to learn about the cultures of the places the ship will visit. The cruise will be made even more memorable by the presence of Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, who will allow passengers to meet and interact throughout the one-of-a-kind journey.
The Carnival Legend has not yet started cruise operations, but it is set to do so on November 14th, departing from Baltimore. The ship will take the place of the Carnival Pride, which will depart for Tampa, Florida, to begin voyages.
Cruise Cancellations in Australia
Further suspensions have been issued by Princess Cruises, P&O Australia, and Carnival Cruise Line in Australia. Multiple Carnival-owned cruise ships were in the region, and they expected to restart operations with fully vaccinated Australian passengers and staff members shortly.
However, the cruise companies are in a position where additional cancellations are the only choice due to ambiguity about procedures, regulatory advice, and public health obligations.

Cruises planned to leave between December 18, 2021, and January 14, 2022, for cruises departing from Brisbane, and January 18, 2022, for cruises sailing from Sydney, are among those impacted. The cruise company has also canceled the summer cruise season in Melbourne, citing the new prolongation as a reason for the cancellation.
Princess Cruises has canceled all trips till January 27 due to the uncertainty of cruise ships returning to the area. This has an effect on three Princess cruise ships.
Trips aboard the Coral Princess have been canceled until January 17, while cruises on the Royal Princess and Sapphire Princess have been canceled through March 2022.
Carnival Splendor and Carnival Spirit will now be put on hold until January 16, 2022, according to Carnival Cruise Line. The two Carnival cruise ships were already suspended until December 16, 2021. The cruise line has continued to prolong its suspension since it began in March 2020 because the situation in the nation has not improved enough to allow it to return.
From Galveston, Norway, comes the Norwegian Prima.
Following the ship’s maiden season, Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that Norwegian Prima would homeport at Galveston, Texas in 2023 and 2024.
The firm also revealed a slew of entertainment choices that would be available aboard, including the Prima Speedway, the world’s first three-level 1,378-foot long racetrack, and the world’s first freefall drop dry slides.
The Prima speedway, a new three-level racetrack that will run around and through the funnel of the ship, will include 14 bends for 15 drivers in go-karts that will exceed 30 mph.

The ship will also include the world’s first freefall dry slide, The Drop, which will take guests on a 10-story drop with the greatest G-forces of any cruise line, as well as two additional dry slides, The Rush, where passengers may race each other down the slides.
The Brand’s first Tidal Wave waterslide, including gushing surfs where passengers can ride an innertube to catch the perfect wave, will make its splashing debut on Norwegian Prima as part of the ship’s Aqua Park and Main Pool area. Guests who want to unwind may do so in one of two infinity hot tubs or beneath the cascading water feature in the area.
Onboard entertainment is provided by “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical,” which was created by the same production company that delivered “Jersey Boys” to Norwegian Bliss passengers. The Musical will be 75 minutes long and will include a score of more than 20 of Summer’s mega-hits.
The 142,500 gross ton Norwegian Prima, which is now in the final phases of outfitting and will launch in August 2022, may have us talking for hours.
Luminous Carnival Almost there
For years, we’ve been following the development of Carnival Victory into Carnival Radiance. The ship is finally in the last phases of its dry dock, after delays caused by the stoppage of operations. The ship’s name has also been changed to Carnival Radiance, according to the cruise company.
At a shipyard in Cadiz, Spain, the ship is undergoing a $200 million bow-to-stern renovation. The ship will get a slew of new features, including all of the popular FUN 2.0 improvements that have already been implemented throughout the fleet. In addition, the Carnival Radiance will have 110 additional guest suites and cabins, as well as more shop space.

Another highlight will be the new Big Chicken restaurant, which premiered during Mardi Gras earlier this year and was designed by Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal.
The dazzling new red, white, and blue livery, which has already been carried out to five cruise ships during their dry docking, is one of the greatest attractions of the makeover.
The Carnival cruise ship will leave the shipyard in Spain on October 18 to embark on a seven-week voyage to her new homeport in Long Beach, California, where she will join Carnival Panorama.
On December 13, 2021, the Carnival Radiance will start voyages from Long Beach, becoming the fleet’s last ship to do so this year.
Congress receives a new cruise bill.
Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska unveiled a new bill on September 15, 2021, to assist Alaska avoid a recurrence of the Passenger Vessel Services Act, which prevented cruise ships from visiting the state. The bill, dubbed the “Cruising for Alaska’s Workforce Act,” was recently filed in Congress.
The bill seeks to provide cruise ships traveling to Alaska from the United States a permanent exemption from the PVSA, allowing them to reach Alaska without having to stop in Canada.

The Cruising for Alaska’s Workforce Act would thereafter be repealed if a cruise ship capable of carrying more than 1,000 people is constructed in the United States. The Pride of America, operated by Norwegian Cruise Line and stationed in Hawaii, is currently the only US-flagged cruise ship. The rest of the cruise ships are registered in nations like Panama and the Bahamas.
After being actively engaged in getting the Alaska Tourism Restoration Act (ATRA) approved by Congress and signed by President Biden on May 24, 2021, the Senator has proposed a new measure. The law was introduced when Canada prohibited cruise ships for more than a year, preventing cruises from calling in Alaska because of the Passenger Vessel Services Act.

Hong Kong Restart by Royal Caribbean has been postponed.
The Spectrum of the Seas’ October 5 departure from Hong Kong, as well as the two following sailings, has been canceled by Royal Caribbean. It implies that the October 5th, 8th, and 10th cruises will no longer take place, and the first voyage will instead take place on October 14.
The cancellations followed the Hong Kong government’s tightening of restrictions and tightening of regulations for travelers traveling from Europe, North America, and Asia. It makes it difficult for crew members to get to the vessel from their home nations.

Out of Hong Kong, the Spectrum of the Seas exclusively sails short four- and three-night vacation excursions to nowhere. The Quantum Ultra class cruise ship will begin conducting worldwide voyages including a stop in Japan on January 12, 2022.
The cruises departing from Hong Kong are exclusively available to Hong Kong residents, and passengers must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before to departure. Before being permitted on board, a negative test result must also be shown. The procedures are in place as needed by Hong Kong authorities, and the specifics may vary from those in other countries, such as the United States.
