State Department, CDC Lower Travel Advisories for The Bahamas

Before the holidays, the US State Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reduced its travel warnings for the Bahamas from Level 3 to Level 2.

The CDC has issued a moderate COVID-19 warning for the islands as of Monday, while the State Department advises Americans to exercise heightened vigilance in the nation owing to the epidemic and criminality. The CDC’s Level 2 Travel Health Notice, which advises travelers to be vaccinated before going to the Bahamas, assesses risk based on COVID-19 case counts and trajectory, as well as vaccination rates, among other things.

In a statement, Deputy Prime Minister I. Chester, Cooper Bahamas Minister of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation, stated, “We see this decreased recommendation positively as indication that our processes and preventative measures to fight COVID-19 in The Bahamas are succeeding.” “However, this is not the time to relax our strict rules, which are in place to ensure the safety of both tourists and Bahamians. I beg that everyone who is enjoying the beauty of our islands remembers that the epidemic is still ongoing and that it is our common obligation to help halt the spread.”

Visitors to the Bahamas who are completely vaccinated must receive a negative COVID-19 antigen or PCR test no more than five days before to arrival. Travelers must submit the findings together with evidence of immunization verifying that they have cleared the two-week immunity period, such as a valid CDC card, as part of their Bahamas Travel Health Visa application.

Meanwhile, unvaccinated people aged 12 and above will require a negative COVID-19 PCR test no more than five days before to arrival, while children aged 2 to 11 will need a negative COVID-19 antigen or PCR test no more than five days prior to arrival.

Regardless of immunization status, all passengers must purchase COVID-19 health insurance in the Bahamas, the cost of which is included in the Travel Health Visa application fee. The cost is determined on your vaccination status as well as the length of your stay. Travelers should also keep in mind that the visa application procedure might take up to 48 hours.
