Experts say that this marks an important turning point for the cruise industry as it moves towards competing with high-end vacation options like private island vacations.

By the end of 2021, the cruise line aims to have the bulk of its fleet operating, and by the spring of 2022, it expects to have its full fleet of ships across its three brands operational. NCLH expects the firm to return to near-normalcy in 2022, with positive cash flow and a successful operation.
This week, the third-largest cruise operator in the United States revealed its third-quarter financial results. The findings reflect a corporation that isn’t quite back on its feet yet, but is on the mend.
A Fantastic Cruise Comeback Has Been Successfully Executed
The Great Cruise Comeback, as NCLH likes to call its restart plans, is well on its way to becoming a resounding success for the cruise line, with eleven ships operational to far out of a total of 28. So far, occupancy levels have remained at a self-imposed 50-60%. This number will rise in the following months. The number of ships on the water will also increase.

“While consumer concerns about the Delta variant caused a slowdown in bookings in the third quarter, net booking volumes have improved over the past six weeks, and we continue to see robust future demand for cruising, particularly for the second half of 2022 and beyond, when our entire fleet is expected to be back in operation at normalized occupancy levels,” says Frank Del Rio.
Bookings are also demonstrating high levels of consumer confidence, notably for the second half of 2022 and 2023; but, due to spikes in the Delta version, there has been a slowdown for the balance of 2021. It demonstrates that persistent health and safety concerns throughout the globe continue to have a significant impact on reservations.

With Black Friday and Christmas sales, the fourth quarter of the year is generally the busiest period of the year for cruise reservations. Despite the problems it has had in the previous 18 months, NCLH is still a financially sound corporation.

The company’s strong belief in the future is reflected in the number of ships it plans to launch in the next years. Between 2022 and 2027, Norwegian Cruise Line will introduce six Prima-class ships, Oceania will launch one Vista-class ship in 2023 and an Allura-class ship in 2025, and Seven Seas Grandeur will debut in 2023.

Although forecasting the future is difficult, NCLH anticipates the firm will be operational again in the second half of 2022.
